Sorry for the paucity of posts over the last week; my day job has kept my moviegoing to a minimum lately. Not that I'm complaining! Especially not after seeing Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Tokyo Sonata, which is as empathetic a portrait of the pain of losing one's job as I've seen since Laurent Cantet's Time Out. Heather Noel, the co-host of DVD Afternoon, agreed — and you can hear us talk about it in this week's podcast. Also in this episode: a split decision on Tetro, a unanimous thumbs-up for Isabella Rossellini, and a special report from Heather on the Calgary Expo, where she met Leonard Nimoy and flirted with Malcolm McDowell. Busy gal!
